EDIT: in the spirit of full disclosure, i changed the date on this blog post. i wrote this post last night, and published at around 11:30pm. somehow, the timestamp got changed to one hour ahead (indeed, i just saved this post and it’s telling me that i last edited one hour from now), and so when i published the post, it stated that i posted on november 17th instead of the 16th. i’m off to fix that tout de suite.
EDIT #2: on my settings page: “Unfortunately, you have to manually update this for Daylight Savings Time. Lame, we know, but will be fixed in the future.”

right…i should have known better than to post a poll over the weekend, especially since it seems i get the most hits during the week (have i mentioned that i love knowing how many hits i get every day? i really really love it). or, perhaps, like my friend jon, you simply CTRL+F and search for your name, and move on if/when it doesn’t come up. because he loves me like that. hi jon!
ahem.
anyway, this weekend was sort of a blur. sam and i cooked dinner (indian!) for lynne and gareth on saturday night, and it seemed like the majority of saturday was spent grocery shopping, cleaning the flat, and cooking prep. for the record, i let sam doing the vacuuming (if you’ll recall, i have a little problem using dysons), and we even cleaned the windows! it was overdue, really, and having friends over was just impetus for us to get it done.
we had the requisite naan, poppadoms (sp?), and picked up some fresh bhajis, pakora and samosas at the supermarket, as well as a very tasty apple and winter berry crisp for pudding.*
*i have tried and failed to understand why dessert here is called “pudding.” pudding as americans know it is, well, pudding (as in jello brand), and dessert is the course after the entree. and here there’s things called “black pudding” or “yorkshire pudding” but they’re not exactly something you’d eat after dinner. but, i suppose that’s another one of those differences in our languages that i imagine i’ll be having an argument with sam about later.
at any rate, sam’s got this amazing curry kit from his sister (i think) which makes curries much better and faster than the aloo gobi i tried to make a couple years ago (result? EPIC FAIL). so we made a vegetarian curry and a chicken bhuna, and drank: 4 large kingfishers, 3 1/2 bottles of wine, 2 arran blondes, 2 carlings, 1 fraoch and a partridge in a pear tree. a LOT of alcohol for just 4 people, although to be fair, it was spread out over a 7 hour period (although it really didn’t feel like that long!).
and because sam and i are such talented chefs cooks hacks, we managed to dirty just about EVERY SINGLE DISH and utensil in the kitchen over 3 courses and drinks. i kept wanting to clean it up, or at least stack the dishes so it would be easier to clean up later, but i kept being berated for wanting to clean up (!!!) and was sternly advised to sit down and drink my wine in the fire-lit lounge like a good girl. so i did. and then we all had another glass. and another glass. and another bottle. and another bottle. pretty soon it was past 3 a.m., and after lynne and gareth left, sam and i suddenly realized that there was NO WAY we were going to be doing any cleaning that night.
this morning, sam was making toast and tea (which he deemed as “a sign” because there was only one clean knife and one clean teaspoon left, see?). as fate would have it, i also found a clean bowl for me for some cereal. after we were done eating, sam looked at me, looked over at the countertops covered in dirty dishes, looked at me, and said “so, do you feel like watching buzzcocks?” (a music-related quiz show sam’s gotten me addicted to). i looked at the countertops, then back at sam, and with an mischievous grin on his face like he was skiving off work, he said “yeah, let’s go.” needless to say, he didn’t exactly have to twist my arm to get me to follow him. (also: i’m a sucker for that simon amstell.)
after doing some (more) grocery shopping, we came back and had some very tasty leftover curries for dinner. yes, again. if you love indian food (and i really do), the UK is a great place to be. (or india, i suppose india might be better for indian food. but i’m not entirely convinced.)
and after all that, i’m off to watch the recent episode of fringe before heading off to bed for a non-alcohol-induced sleep.
g’night!
