traveling and weddings and job interviews, oh my!
February 19th, 2009 § 7 Comments
and that is (those are?) the only excuse(s?) i will make for myself for not blogging for the last 3 weeks or so. i think i got derailed by my cousin’s wedding.
for someone who doesn’t currently have a job, i’ve been doing a fair job at keeping busy. so far this week, i have:
- finally gotten my hair cut – pictures to be posted if/when i ever figure out how to get my photos off my phone
- learned how to change the oil and oil filter in my car – it’s SO much easier than i thought it would be, as long as you have the proper tools to do it. hopefully i’ll never take my car to jiffy lube for an overpriced oil change again.
- cooked quite a few tasty and healthy meals – one of which kind of got ruined last night when a glass pitcher burst when my sister poured hot water into it for tea. apparently the pitcher wasn’t made for hot beverages.
but hey, sis and FBIL offered to rebuy everything i’d made so i could make the meal again in the future, so it’s not a complete loss. - purchased and cut up my first whole pineapple – this is somewhat sad at the age of 31. me, not the pineapple.
- purchased and put together two ikea dressers that i got on sale for $39 each, as opposed to $79.
- had this month’s brunch at melt – tell me that you can’t read “Lover’s Lane Buckwheat Waffle w/Rosewater Strawberries, topped with Citrus Zest and Mexican Chocolate Whipped Cream” without your mouth watering. it is, as always, a gastronomically perfect belgian waffle. their waffles are but one of the many reasons why i love melt so much.
somehow in the midst of all of the craziness, i’ve also interviewed for a paralegal job (in an entirely different industry than the one i worked in previously) that i heard about through a friend of mine. i’m hoping that i get it as it seems a job where i could learn a lot, and use the job skills i already have. but let’s face it, i could use some regular income right about now. i’m also currently prospecting another position which is probably a bit ambitious given the circumstances, but…i’ll have to go into more on that one later.
i’m slowly but surely trying to get back into the habit of blogging regularly, so i don’t want to overdo it right now or i’ll just burn myself out again. perhaps next time i’ll work on getting some photos of my trip to vancouver and my cousin’s wedding (some of which are pretty awesome, if i do say so myself).
toodles!
I’ve missed your regular posts. I know I don’t comment much…but feeling as craptastic as I do, I don’t tend to think up very clever or witty comments…but alas, I AM reading!
Sounds like you’ve been very busy.
Good luck with the job interviews and other prospects you’ve got coming up. Looking forward to hearing how those pan out.
thanks for your comments…it reminds me that i DO actually have a few readers out there.
Agh, I do the same thing, not blogging for periods of time. Welcome back.
What kinds of stuff have you been cooking? I made some super trashy tuna casserole the other night.
well the other night i marinated some chicken in olive oil, chopped garlic and ginger, cracked black pepper, a bit of mustard, and chopped fresh cilantro and basil. then for sides i had some brown rice with sauteed onions in it, asparagus with olive oil, salt, pepper and sprinkled with sesame seeds, and a fresh whole wheat demi-baguette with an olive oil-based dipping sauce.
so, yeah, i was a bit sad about the fact that it got ruined.
but i’m sure i can recreate it without too much hassle.
for the most part, i’m trying to cook stuff without preservatives and without foods that haven’t been “pre” anything (sliced, grated, chopped). the only exception i made is for pre-peeled garlic cloves. because peeling those things are a giant pain in the rear.
You’re hard core. I made some roasted garlic and olive oil dip for some bread last night. I also added chives and shallots. It was very good.
And I’m probably going to have the garlic taste in my mouth for a month.
And in my apartment for longer.
heh…being “hardcore” is only a recent development.
and there are a lot worse things to smell then garlic, i say!
Yes. It could actually smell like me in here, and that would be horrific!
